Having seen one or two of his movies, I can't call myself a FAN of Oscar Micheaux as a filmmaker—any more than I can call myself a fan of his successor Tyler Perry.
But I'm glad that both of them existed, and exist today—and in the present, I really hope Perry's example convinces Black filmmakers whose work I LIKE to do what he's done.
Student of film history as well as a sometimes filmmaker here—and for all my comments about Tyler Perry as an artist, what he has accomplished is nothing short of amazing.
